Industrial bearings for automotive, commercial vehicles and other hydraulic applications
Bearings used in External Gear Pumps
PRODUCT USED
KS Permaglide® cylindrical plain bearing design PAP … P141
Material: Permaglide® KS P 141
FUNCTION
Gear pumps operate according to the positive displacement principle and are technically easy to implement with the gear wheels in a housing. With this principle, the two gear wheels fill each other with liquid, thus ensuring a uniform pump delivery. However, leakage currents occur between the tips of the gearwheels and the wall of the housing, which depend on factors such as construction (precision), temperature, density of the liquid, etc.
The pressure build-up and low leakage requires bearings with a small bearing clearance. For a trouble-free hydrodynamic operating condition, the slide bearings must have a bearing clearance that is matched to the operating medium. The slide bearings come into direct contact with the operating medium. Depending on the application, aggressive media are used. The externally toothed gear wheels rotate against each other in an intermeshing manner, which forces the pressure medium out of the tooth spaces on the outlet side. They have a wide permissible viscosity range and good suction performance. Gear pumps are used as hydraulic power converters in numerous craft and industrial applications, e.g. in vehicles as fuel pumps, oil pumps or coolant pumps. In the chemical industry, gear pumps convey organic and inorganic chemicals. In construction and agricultural machinery, gear pumps are used, for example, to drive hydraulic motors.

DEMANDS
External gear pumps are designed for a long service life with high pressure build-up. They must also prove reliable with different and partly particle-laden media and function in a wide temperature range. Operation should be as quiet as possible.
BEARING WITH KS PERMAGLIDE® P 141 CYLINDRICAL PLAIN BEARINGS
The bearings have a very low bearing clearance over the entire operating period. The material KS Permaglide® P 141 is a high-performance material with high resistance to low erosion and is approved for an operating temperature of up to 250 °C. Due to its high wear resistance, erosion resistance and good chemical media compatibility, KS Permaglide® P 141 is particularly suitable for bearing arrangements in external gear pumps.
ADVANTAGES OF KS PERMAGLIDE® P 141 CYLINDRICAL PLAIN BEARINGS
- High wear resistance
- Low coefficients of friction
- Good resistance to cavitation and erosion
- Insensitive to shock load
- Negligible stick-slip effect
- Good chemical resistance
DESCRIPTION OF MATERIAL
KS Permaglide® P141 is a lead-free plain bearing material that is used particularly in systems with liquid lubrication and a high degree of mixed friction. Furthermore, KS Permaglide® P 141 can also be used in dry running applications. KS Permaglide® P 141 is characterized by a low coefficient of friction, very good emergency running properties and high resistance to flow erosion. This material system meets the requirements of EU Directive 2000 / 53 / EC (EU End-of-Life Vehicle Directive).
