Secondary Air Pumps and Systems
The Business Unit Emission and Thermosystems develops and manufactures components for fresh air injection in exhaust gas treatment systems. These include valves with a choice of electric or pneumatic actuation.
The portfolio offers blowers with constant speed using DC motors or variable speed using brushless DC motors (BLDC). Potential applications include the acceleration of catalytic converter heat-up for cold starts or controlled particle filter regeneration.
PRODUCT PORTFOLIO
Electrically actuated valves

Electrically actuated valves from Pierburg are distinguished by their short response times. Moreover, they need neither a vacuum or pressure supply, which in modern vehicles must often be delivered by a separate vacuum pump. This results in considerably increased efficiency.
Pressure actuated valves

These pneumatically-actuated valves are an attractively-priced option. The valves are actuated by vacuum or air pressure.
DC motor driven pumps

DC motor driven air pumps are generally used during cold starting. Here, they accelerate catalytic converter heat-up, which in turn reduces harmful emissions. They are predominantly installed in systems which require an almost constant airflow for a short period of operation, but where no speed variation is required.
BLDC motor driven pumps

In contrast to air pumps with DC motors, the speed of brushless DC (BLDC) motor-driven air pump is variable. This is why they are always used when a variable air flow is required, for example in applications with long power-on cycles and variable operating conditions.
