New valves for fuel vapor retention in EVAP systems
Restraint systems for fuel vapors, so-called EVAP systems, are now common components of modern combustion engines. In today's hybrid vehicles, the fuel tank system is sealed off from the outside and so excess or negative pressure can build up. Yet in certain situations this pressure must be balanced out again. Pierburg has developed two new valves for this purpose: both the Fuel Tank Isolation Valve (FTIV) and the Fuel Vapor Valve (FVV) are based on a modular system.

At the 12th International Automotive Congress 2019 in Shanghai, southern China, Rheinmetall Automotive received an award for its new hydrogen recirculation blower at the beginning of December. With the Automotive Technology Innovation Award for this fuel-cell driveline component developed by Rheinmetall Automotive subsidiary Pierburg, with the support of an online vote the jury honored innovative developments in the field of future drivelines.

Among the key technologies in the transition phase to electromobility are the gradual hybridization of the powertrain and the minimization of internal engine losses through the use of low-viscosity oils. Efficient high-voltage components for fuel-cell applications
Fuel-cell systems are a challenging technology that, much like combustion engines, requires sophisticated thermal management and supplies of air and hydrogen. Pierburg GmbH, a subsidiary of Rheinmetall Automotive AG, is applying its accumulated combustion engine expertise in pumps and valves to offer special products for fuel-cell vehicles. In addition to a leak-free control valve that is suitable for the specific requirements of fuel cells, two other products have been developed and occupy a special position in the market to date: a coolant pump and a hydrogen recirculation blower. Both are suitable for both low-voltage and high-voltage vehicle electrical systems with 400 and 800 volts.
